Junior success at Nottingham Megafinal

A big group of West Nottingham juniors took part in the Nottingham Megafinal, held at Nottingham High School on Saturday 14th May

As usual the event was a 6-round rapidplay organised into age sections, although some were merged due to lower numbers than expected. The qualification score was 4 out of 6, or top boy or girl in your section

In the Under 9 Boys, Robin Sykes was second with 5pts.

In the Under 10 Boys, Yash Handa qualified with 4pts, coming 4th. Artemijs Gulijevs just missed out on 3.5pts.

Under 10 Girls saw Sophia Arlachova score 2.5pts, while in the Under 10 Boys Dexter Wright scored 2pts.

In the Under 12 Mixed section, Sebastian Griffin-Young qualified with 4.5pts, finishing 3rd. Isaac Keenan (4pts) also qualified. Daniel Golding finished on 3pts.

Finally, there was a 13-18 Mixed Group. Anita Somton won the U18 Girls with 5pts. Alexandra Arlachova qualified with 4.5pts. Eldars Gulijevs won the U14 Boys with 4pts. Also playing were Maksim Krasnov (3pts) and Jonah Tomsett (2pts).

All the qualifers go through to the Gigafinals, held OTB in July or online in September. Well done to the competitors for making it a good day of chess, and good luck to our qualifiers!
