West Nottingham juniors clean up at 4NCL Hull

The 4NCL Hull International, held from 1-3 November, was rich pickings for our juniors.

The event also incorporated a GM norm event, which added to the interest and meant that the Open was on e-boards and transmitted live on chess24.com

In the Open, Jonah Willow was joint second, including a 5-move grandmaster draw in the final round against GM Gormally! His score was 4/5 and he won £150.

Also in the Open, Armaan Gogia had the best junior performance rating, achieved by beating Jim Burnett and drawing with Adi Munshi. He scored 3pts and won £60.

Vidura Mendis also had the best junior performance, this time in the Major (U2000), and also scored 3pts and won £60.

To complete the haul (maybe there really is a magic money tree!), Joseph Hurst was unbeaten on 3.5/5 in the Minor and also won £60!

Many other West Nottingham players competed in this event, held at the Royal Hotel Hull which is a grand old hotel connected to the train station.

In the Open, Adi Munshi finished also on 3pts, Shabir Okhai on 2.5pts, Ritika and Lavanya Maladkar both on 2pts, with Ross Murphy on 0.5/4.

In the Major, Anita Somton only lost to the winner and finished just outside the prize money on 3.5/5.

Finally, in the Minor, Arjuna Mendis finished on 2pts and Kate Hurst on 1.5pts.

Overall a lucrative trip! Well done to everyone who competed, whether or not they came home with some spending money! The full list of prizewinners is on the 4NCL website and all crosstables can be found on chess-results.com.
