East Midlands Junior Rapidplay Chess Grand Prix

The East Midlands Junior Rapidplay Chess Grand Prix is an annual series of three one-day rapidplay tournaments for children up to 18 years old.

The competition

Each tournament is a six-round Swiss system rapidplay. Players have 30 minutes each for all their moves in a game. All players play in every round – this is not a knockout competition.

The tournament is split into five sections: Under 8, Under 10, Under 12, Under 14 and Under 18 (age at 1 September). Players achieving the best scores in each section win trophies, and there are also prizes for the highest placed girl and best game in each section. The players with the best aggregate scores across all three tournaments win the Grand Prix.

Refreshments

A tuck shop is open during the competition. Children should bring a packed lunch.
